Dining in Panzano: Dario Cecchini - where to eat in Panzano
When people ask me about unforgettable food experiences in Tuscany, one name always comes to mind: Dario Cecchini—the “world’s most famous butcher.” A visit to Dario isn’t just about the food, it’s about the whole experience.
Step into his Antica Macelleria Cecchini in the small town of Panzano and you’ll feel it instantly. Dario is larger than life—sometimes quoting Dante, sometimes singing, always welcoming guests with a glass of wine and a big smile. His family has worked in this shop for generations, and he has turned butchery into an art, celebrating every cut of the animal with passion and respect.
Where to eat with Dario
Dario runs three restaurants in Panzano, each with its own character:
Officina della Bistecca – The place for the famous bistecca alla Fiorentina. It’s a multi-course, family-style meal where the steak is the star. Expect a lively, communal atmosphere that feels like a celebration.
Solociccia – A true “nose-to-tail” dining experience. Here, lesser-known cuts shine in slow-braised dishes, beef salads, and hearty stews that reflect Dario’s philosophy of honoring the whole animal.
Dario DOC – A more casual spot, perfect for a quick meal or one of his legendary Tuscan burgers. Relaxed and fun, it’s a great way to enjoy Dario’s cooking without committing to a long dinner.
